- John Clemons
John Singleton Clemons (1862 –
10 November 1944 ) was anAustralia n politician.Clemons was elected to the
Australian Senate forTasmania at the first federal election in 1901, representing theFree Trade Party —it was later renamed theAnti-Socialist Party and in 1909 it became part of theCommonwealth Liberal Party . Clemons was appointedMinister without portfolio in theCook Ministry from June 1913 until its defeat at the September 1914 election. At the same time Clemons lost his seat in the Senate with immediate effect, as it was a double dissolution. [cite web
