St. John's High School (Harare)

St Johns High School is a catholic run-establishment located in the suburban area of Emerald Hill in Harare, Zimbabwe.It provides junior and senior level high school education to children from Harare and outlying areas like Chitungwiza.

The school is run by catholic nuns hence it's curriculum includes religious studies and some of its teachers are nuns from the nearby convent(Sisters). The school instills discipline and aims to uphold high ethic and moral standards in its students. It is categorized as a Group A school in Zimbabwe and its alumni includes many notables in Zimbabwe. The school has won several accollades including that provincial and national basketball tournaments. Several St John's High School students have also gone to represent the junior provincial and national teams in various sporting disciplines such as hockey, basketball, swimming and cricket.

The school has a reputation of producing both intellects and productive sportspersons. The school boasts of a high pass rate every year as it is amongst those schools in Zimbabwe which produce the best results. The school marked its 75th year of existence in 2000 following its inception in 1925. Over the years they have excelled in sports and produced talented cricketers in the likes of Tatenda Nick Mwanandimayi(1999-2004) who played for Harare Sports Club at the age of fourteen (2000-2001). He later went on to play for Old Hararians Sports Club(2001-2002) before moving on to Alexander Sports Club(2002-2005). He completed all six years of his high school education at St John's High School, a period in which he also became Editor of the school magazine, "The Johnian Echo" (2004), he was the Quiz Club President (2003/2004), Honourary Member of The Interact Club, a member of The Budding Writers Association of Zimbabwe (BWAZ) and other duties far too many to mention.

The school has produced and will continue to produce capable and distinguished students in the ranks of the above mentioned student, highlighting the fact that the school has the potential to develop students both on the academic and intellectual front without compromising on any either aspect.

The catholic school is one of the few schools that can balance both the academic and sporting fronts as the students tend to maintain an equilibrium regarding their grades and sporting activities. St John's High School still remains a pioneer in education delivery due to the simple fact that it is founded upon a basic principle, veritas, meaning peace.
