1 May 1945 Marquardt became "JG 51"s last casualty of the war when he was shot down byRAF Spitfire s north of Berlin [Weal 1998, p. 82.] .After the war, Marquardt joined into the Bundesluftwaffe, with the rank of Leutnant on
16 August 1956 . He retired on30 September 1973 , having risen to the rank ofOberstleutnant .Awards
