The Flying Ant is a plywood design originated by John Spencer in New Zealand during the 1950s.

A flying ant is a winged ant that may also be a queen ant that may also only have wings for one day known as flying ant day. A flying ant is distinguished from a termite by having three segments (including the head) narrowly connected, curled or bent antennia, slightly different size wings and a hard body. The termite has two body segments (including the head) that look more like one piece. See internal links on the key terms in this paragraph to see more details about the flying ant.
