Bhutan 's firsthorror film , "Bakchha ", is amilestone for the media inBhutan .Citizens were not granted access to media until1999 . The people of Bhutan look for fantasy in their movies not reality. The culture of Bhutan is very preserved and people feared that with the increase in media and film production that the culture would become more like other countries. This however was not the case and the movies have increased peoples desire fo preserve the culture of Bhutan. Tshering Wangyel produced "Bakchha" in 2007. He is a well know producer that has produced many films in the past few years but this is the first horror film. The actors in the film are not all like ones in other countries that are schooled in acting; they are hired locally. Rinzin Choden is one of the leading actresses and is one of the only professional actors in the film. The film was approved for showing by the Bhutan Information, Communication, and Media Authority. As all aspects of media, especially films are beginning to increase with the push towards democracy.
