- Fricktal
The Fricktal ("Frick Valley") is the northwest finger extending from
Canton of Aargau . It is situated between theriver Rhine and the Jura. It contains the districts of Laufenburg and Rheinfelden.Fricktal was originally part of
Aargau before Aargau was divided in 1415. As one of the originalHabsburg possessions, Fricktal was included in theVorderösterreich ("Further Austria"). In 1469,Sigismund, Archduke of Austria sold Fricktal to DukeCharles the Bold of Burgundy .In the early 1700s,
Bern attempted to purchase Fricktal from the Emperor. From 1797 to 1802, Fricktal was occupied by France. Fricktal was briefly a canton, as theCanton of Fricktal between1802 and1803 . On9 March 1803 , Fricktal was integrated back into Aargau.Fricktal is an important location for
pharmaceutical ,wine , andcherry production.
