Teja (confectionery)

Teja (confectionery)

Tejas (pronounced "teh-has") are a popular dumpling-shaped confection from the Ica Region of Peru. It contains manjar blanco filling (similar to dulce de leche) and either dry fruits or nuts. The exterior is usually a sugar-based fondant-like shell [http://www.nutricionyrecetas.com/recetas/galletas/6668.htm] , but there also exists chocolate versions too (known by the contraction "chocotejas" [http://www.yanuq.com/buscador.asp?idreceta=1202] ).

Tejas are also a Spanish confection of a paste of flour, sugar, and other ingredients, baked. [http://buscon.rae.es/draeI/SrvltGUIBusUsual?TIPO_HTML=2&TIPO_BUS=3&LEMA=teja] . The Spanish recipes [http://lavidaencasa.com/RECETARIO/Recetas/tejasalanaranja.htm] direct that the pastry should be shaped as a typical teja (Spanish for roof tile).
