Fazlul Halim Chowdhury

Professor Fazlul Halim Chowdhury (1 August 1930 – 9 April 1996) was the longest-serving (1976-1983) Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University, Bangladesh. Born on 1 August 1930 to a respectable family of Comilla Chouddagram, his father the late Abdul Aziz Chowdhurywas a graduate from Aligarh University, and an educationist who served as a Teacher of Government High School and later as an Inspector of schools. Professor Chowdhury's mother late Afifa Khatun, a highly devoted and committed woman to the cause of education was widely known in the then village of Chouddagram. He was a fellow of Bangladesh Academy of Sciences ^[1]

Area of Research

He made pioneering contribution to the development of Physical Chemists in the country. Published over 20 articles. Major fields: Physical Chemistry of cellulose fibers (of jute in particular) and polyelectrolytes; and the Physical Chemistry of proteins. Guided number of Ph.D. theses.
