Despite having an optimumpH of 6.0–7.5, growth can continue to anacid minimum of pH 4.8. Growth can only occur onreduced inorganic sulfur compounds, and unlike species in the related genus "Acidithiobacillus ", "T.tepidarius" is unable to oxidiseferrous iron .References
