"Walking to the Waterline" is the first installment of the Duane Hopwood trilogy and features Mulhern himself in the central role of Francis, an out of work sit-com actor returning to his empty childhood home on the Jersey shore to deal with the aftermath of his father's death.

The movie is writer/director Matt Mulhern's first film. The film has received extensive cable play on IFC.

The second installment of trilogy, "Duane Hopwood", starring David Schwimmer was released in 2005 at the Sundance Film Festival.
