- Ron Toomer
Ronald Valentine Toomer (born
31 May 1930 ) is one of the prominentroller coaster designers in the world.He graduated from the
University of Nevada with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was on the design team for the heat shield on the Apollo spacecraft. When he joinedArrow Dynamics , he was hired to work on the first all-steel roller coaster, Runaway Mine Ride. He worked for the firm for many years before becoming its president in 1986. Toomer is responsible for designing theMagnum XL 200 atCedar Point inSandusky, Ohio , the Desperado inPrimm, Nevada , and Big Bad Wolf atBusch Gardens inWilliamsburg, Virginia , among many others. It has been noted that Toomer never actually rides any of the roller coasters he designs, having had amotion sickness problem since childhood Citation
