Wiesbaden ,Germany as the son of Professor Friedrich Nippold of theUniversity of Jena . He attended Gymnasium inBurgdorf and inBerne and studied law at theUniversity of Berne ,University of Halle ,University of Tübingen and at the University of Jena. At the latter, he earned hisdoctorate in 1886, and was employed as a local court judge inWeimar .In 1889, Nippon was invited by the Japanese government as a foreign advisor to teach at the Law School of the Society for German Sciences in Tokyo.
On his return to Europe on the conclusion of his three year contract, he worked as a lawyer in
Thun and Berne and acquired Swiss citizenship in 1905. The same year, he passed his habilitation ininternational law at theUniversity of Berne . After a brief stay inFrankfurt he returned to Switzerland after the outbreak of theFirst World War .Following the war, he became President of the High Court of the
Saarland inSaarlouis in 1921. In 1927, he had become a professor of the University of Berne, and returned to Switzerland to assume his seat in 1934. He died in 1938 in SwitzerlandWorks
