Jabuka (island)

Jabuka (which means apple in Croation) is an uninhabited volcanic island in the Adriatic sea, west of the island of Vis.

Flora & Fauna

Its coast is steep and difficult to reach, and landings can be made only when the weather is clear. Then you can access the island from the southwest side. On the island, the endemic species black lizard (Podarcis melisellensis pomoensis) and plants are protected endemics - Centaurea jabukensis and Centaurea crithmifolia; both are in the family of Asteraceae. In 1958 the island was declared a geological monument of nature.

The surrounding sea is rich with fish, especially abramis.

Geological features

Jabuka has 97 meters tall cliffs. All sea lanes avoid the island (probably because its magnetic form confuses compasses), and recently it has become a yachtspeople target.
