Cafe Hoop

Cafe Hoop

Cafe Hoop is a cooperative, student-run coffee shop at Wellesley College.

History

In 1981, the student body at Wellesley allocated $10,000 to reclaim an abandoned pottery workshop in the basement of the student center. This became the site for Cafe Hoop, named after the longstanding Seven Sisters tradition of hoop rolling. The Hoop moved into its current location after the 2005 construction of a new student center. It occupies an important role as one of few late-night dining options on campus, open from 3PM-1AM.

BDOC

During the annual Dyke Ball party thrown by the campus LGBTQ organization (Spectrum), the Hoop counts student votes and selects a winner to receive the "Big Dyke On Campus" award.

Kiss a Hoopie

During the Hoop's annual fundraiser, also held during Dyke Ball, one can "purchase" a kiss from a Hoop employee for $1.

Menu

The main food product sold in the Hoop, nachos, are served with melted cheese and a variety of available sides and toppings. Other menu options include croissants, pizza bagels, hummus plates, and a variety of candy. All of the Hoop's coffee and tea options are fair trade.
