Wood management

Wood management

Wood or forest management specifies the process of managing a forest in order to draw financial benefit from it while protecting other values such as recreation, wildlife and water.

Primarily this means fractional logging in a forest, or extracting single trees out of a forest.

It can mean controlled hunting, agroforestry and a special way of stock farming, too.

It is a generation overlapping process.

Riparian strips or zoning is an important forest management practice in which trees are left standing along waterways to protect the banks and water quality. Failure to do so has historically exacerbated flooding, erosion and siltation, and caused local extirpations of sensitive plant and animal species.
