- Kirk Hunter
Kirk Hunter (born
2 October 1963 inBelfast ) is a retired Northern Irish footballer. Hunter played most notably forCrusaders F.C. , initially as a striker, but also as a midfielder. He was notable for his fiery nature on the pitch, and was without a doubt one of the most aggressive players in the history ofIrish League football. In just one of his many infamous incidents on the football pitch Kirk was brought to court and sued for his horrific tackle on ex-Larne player Paul Murnin in 1992. This particular 'tackle' sadly ended the career of the ex-Larne player and did little to curb the Crues hitmans savage ways. In another incident Kirk Hunter was sent-off without touching the ball against North Belfast rivals Cliftonville in 1998 after being on the pitch less than 60 seconds. Brought on as a sub he went straight for a reds player and proceeded to head-butt him and punch 3 others without provocation - this particular incident nearly sparked a riot on the terraces. Without a doubt Kirk Hunter had "some" footballing ability however fans of those outside Crusaders FC, were Kirk remains a legend, live in hope that Hunters style of football is retired along with him - to many he was simply an 'animal'. But off the pitch the man is said to be a lovely guy.References
