Vice Admiral Robert T. Conway, an officer in the

He previously served in various leadership positions aboard several combatant vessels, including USS "Vesole" (DD-878), USS "Towers" (DDG-9), USS "Bainbridge" (CGN-25), USS "Gridley" (CG-21), and USS "John Young" (DD-973).Background
Born in
Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania , and a 1972 graduate of St. Francis College (nowSaint Francis University ),Loretto, Pennsylvania , Vice Admiral Conway graduated with aBachelor of Arts and joined the Navy as an ensign the same year. Later he went on to receive hismaster's degree fromProvidence College ,Providence, Rhode Island , and attended theIndustrial College of the Armed Forces at theNational Defense University , D.C. He has served on theJoint Chiefs of Staff ,Bureau of Naval Personnel , Operational Test and Evaluation Force Pacific, Officer Candidate School, and Naval Facility Cape Hatteras.Among his many commands, Vice Admiral Conway has commanded USS "John Young" (DD-973), Destroyer Squadron 7, Expeditionary Strike Group 1, Navy Region Hawaii, Naval Surface Force,
US Pacific Fleet , and Task Force WARRIOR. He is the first Commander, Naval Installations Command at theWashington Navy Yard , Washington D.C.A strong proponent of leadership by example, Vice Admiral Conway has had a significant impact on several generations of naval officers through such leadership tools as C.A.D.I.F. (Complete Attention to Detail, Immediate Follow-up), compartment certification, minimum knowledge requirements, continuous feedback, and many other similar dynamic approaches.
