The Singapore Red Cross started out in
30 September 1949 as part of the British Red Cross Society. In6 April 1973 , the Singapore Red Cross (SRC) was officially incorporated by the Parliament of Singapore. It was appointed as the National Blood Donor Recruiter by theHealth Sciences Authority (HSA) in2001 .The SRC is part of the world-wide, non-political, non-religious Red Cross movement. Its activities and services are based on the fundamental principles of "humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independence, voluntary service, unity and universality". SRC is an independent humanitarian organisation. It is a charity and raises funds from donors. It is dedicated to protecting human life and dignity, relieving human suffering and responding to emergencies.
The objectives of the Society are to provide assistance in relief operations in times of disaster and in auxiliary health and welfare services to the sick, the handicapped, the aged and the poor. The SRC provides services without any distinction on race, nationality, religion or political opinions. In time of war, it aims to furnish voluntary aid to the sick and wounded including non-belligerents, prisoners of war and civilian sufferers.
The Singapore Red Cross was heavily involved in the relief effort of the Indian Ocean Earthquake and Tsunami, that occurred on
December 26 ,2004 .On
May 8 2005 , SRC celebrated the 142nd anniversary of the Red Cross movement with the launch of events spanning two months, starting with ablood donation drive at Red Cross House.External links
