6th Dáil as a TD for the Waterford constituency. He was re-elected at two further general elections until his defeat at the 1937 election to the9th Dáil . He stood again at the 1938, 1943 and 1944 general elections, but never returned to the Dáil. Industrial and Commercial Panel . He was re-elected in 1943, and in 1944 was returned on theAdministrative Panel , serving asCathaoirleach (speaker) of the Seanad from 1948 to 1951. In 1951, he wasnominated by the Taoiseach ,Eamon de Valera , to the7th Seanad , and elected asLeas-Cathaoirleach (deputy speaker) on 2 June 1948. He did contest the 1954 Seanad elections, and died on 15 December 1959, aged 82.References
