Prior to his election to the Senate, Durkin served in the office of theNew Hampshire Attorney General and served as New Hampshire's Insurance Commissioner.He was defeated for re-election in 1980 by
Warren Rudman . He sought the state's other Senate seat in 1990, and won the Democratic Party nomination, but was defeated handily by Republican nominee, Rep. Bob Smith.External links
