Herbert Gresford Jones

Herbert Gresford Jones (1870 - 1958) was the third Suffragan Bishop of Warrington [ The Times, Monday, Oct 10, 1927; pg. 17; Issue 44708; col C " Ecclesiastical News. New Suffragan Bishop of Warrington"] . Born on 7 April 1870 and educated at Haileybury and Trinity College, Cambridge [“Who was Who” 1897-1990 London, A & C Black, 1991 ISBN 071363457X] , he was ordained in 1894 [The Times, Saturday, Jun 30, 1894; pg. 19; Issue 34304; col F "Ordinations. Liverpool"] . He began his career with a Curacy at "St Helen's Parish Church", Sefton [ [http://www.merseyworld.com/seftonchurch/ Church details] ] before Incumbencies at "St Michael's-in-the-Hamlet", Liverpool and "St John’s". From there he rose rapidly being successively Rural Dean of Bradford, Archdeacon of Sheffield and finally from 1927 a long serving Suffragan Bishop. A firm friend to churches overseas [His publications included "Foreign Missions and the Modern Mind" (1905) and "Uganda in Transformation" (1926)] he retired 18 years later and died on 22 June 1958. His son was also a Bishop.
