Albert Dailey (June 16, 1939,
Baltimore ,Maryland - June 26, 1984,Denver ,Colorado ) was an Americanjazz pianist.Dailey's first professional appearances were with the house band of the
Baltimore Royal Theater in the early 1950s. Later in the decade he studied atMorgan State University and thePeabody Conservatory . He backedDamita Jo DuBlanc on tour from 1960 to 1963, and following this briefly put together his own trio inWashington, D.C. , playing at theBohemia Caverns . In 1964 he moved toNew York City , where he played withDexter Gordon ,Roy Haynes ,Sarah Vaughan ,Charles Mingus , andFreddie Hubbard . In 1967 he played withWoody Herman at theMonterey Jazz Festival , and played intermittently withArt Blakey 's Jazz Messengers around this time. In the 1970s he played withSonny Rollins ,Stan Getz ,Elvin Jones , andArchie Shepp . In the 1980s he did concerts atCarnegie Hall and was a member of theUpper Manhattan Jazz Society withCharlie Rouse ,Benny Bailey , andBuster Williams . He died in 1984.olo discography
