" 'Pocito"' is a department of the province of San Juan (Argentina). It is located in south central Mass, which is predominantly a landscape distinctly grown mainly by at and olive, and hills to the west. It also has the presence of prestigious wineries that make up the so-called Wine Route.

Origin of name

Pocito, diminutive pit, and was named in memory of the small place where India Mariana famous legend of the locals, mined ore then negotiated to see the "Royal Route" of the carts, today Av. Mayor Joaquin Uñac.

History

The travelers of the past century was narrated that Pocito first green was appreciated coming from Mendoza. On January 16, 1851 the Governor Nazario Benavides approved the "Rules of Irrigation" ¨ which in turn also divided the province into sections territorial. Time after Mr. Rosendo Bernardo, inspector water, divided the province into eight sections, which will then increase to nine, then ten, then a corresponding Pocito the third section.

The Legend of India Mariana

The Statue of Liberty

Relief

The mountainous area located in the western sector presents a series of cords with a general north-south direction. Hydrography

The irrigation network originates from the channels and Fifth Cespedes Barracks that run from north to south with flow from the right side of the San Juan River which is the extraction of water underground by farmers in growing areas .-

Weather

Dry with maximum temperatures of 40 °C in summer and minimum below zero in the winter. The atmospheric pressure and humidity is generally low, and became a minimum during the months of August and September due to the winds that blow Zonda often in the area.

Population

According to the census of 2001 the Department Pocito has 40,969 inhabitants, placing it in one of the most populated areas of the province. Economy
