History

Newton Abbot Grammar School underwent significant changes in 1975 as it was changed from a Grammar School to a comprehensive school, under the new title of Knowles Hill School. The name was changed in 2008 to Newton Abbot College, along with other aspects, such as a new uniform, including a blazer, which was introduced 2009.

Academic standards

The School's best ever GCSE results were announced in August 2010. 68% of pupils achieved five or more A*-C grades.[1] Results have also improved at A-Level: in 2010, A-Level students achieved a pass rate of 99% with 63% of all grades at A*-C.

In their January 2008 inspection, Ofsted rated the school as Grade 3, Satisfactory, point three on a four point scale. They stated that "Knowles Hill is a rapidly improving school that provides its students with a satisfactory education."[2]

In their March 2011 inspection, Ofsted rated the school as Grade 2, Good, point two on a four point scale. They stated "all students make good progress in their learning regardless of their background, starting points or educational needs" and that "the learning environment has been vastly improved". The College is described as a "welcoming and positive community where students feel safe, enjoy their learning and achieve well."
