Henry Wascow

Henry Wascow

Henry T. Wascow was from Belton, Texas and was a captain with the 36th Division. He was Killed In Action (KIA) while fighting in Italy on January 9, 1944 during WWII. His death was the basis of Ernie Pyle's article "The Death of Captain Wascow" that earned Pyle his Pulitzer Prize in journalism.

Captain Wascow was known for his willingness to defend and stand up for the troops under his command. In 2001 the Belton Independent School District named its new leadership academy the Henry T. Wascow High School in his honor.
