Bree Sharp was born in Philadelphia, and learned to play guitar by age fifteen. She graduated from Central High School. By 17, she had moved to
New York City to study theater at NYU. She eventually returned to music and, while still in college, began writing the songs that led to her 1998 record deal withTrauma Records .In July 1999, Sharp released her first album, "
A Cheap and Evil Girl ," to strong critical reviews. The album's first single, "David Duchovny," quickly garnered acult following both for its musical qualities and its comical references to the titular actor. There was an unofficial video of "David Duchovny" produced byWill Shivers and Charles Forsch, production assistants and producers from the set of "The X-Files ", that featured a number of celebrities crooning the lyrics.
