Set Details

Eventide is the second set in the Shadowmoor block, which is part of the Lorwyn/Shadowmoor superblock. cite web |url=http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=mtgcom/daily/mr288 |title=Two plus Two |last=Rosewater |first=Mark |authorlink=Mark Rosewater |work=Making Magic |publisher=Wizards of the Coast |date=2007-07-16 |accessdate=2007-07-31] The two blocks mirror each other in many different ways including flavor and mechanics. Even the expansion symbol of Eventide has striking similarities to that of Morningtide, its counterpart in Lorwyn: where the Morningtide symbol suggests a full sun, the Eventide symbol suggests a mostly eclipsed sun.citeweb |url=http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=mtgcom/daily/mr319 |last=Rosewater |first=Mark |authorlink=Mark Rosewater |title=Innovate Is Enough (Or Is It?) |work=Making Magic |date=2008-02-18 |accessdate=2008-02-18]

Eventide will continue the block themes of hybrid cards and color matters that Shadowmoor started, as well as the and key words.cite web |url=http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=magic/eventide/product|title=Eventide Product Information|publisher=Wizards of the Coast |date=2008-06-25 |accessdate=2008-06-25] Where Shadowmoor focused on allied color hybrids, Eventide focuses on enemy color hybrid cards. Eventide also introduces two new mechanics:cite web|url=http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=magic/eventide/spoiler |title=Eventide Visual Spoiler |publisher=Wizards of the Coast |date=2008-06-06 |accessdate=2008-06-06]

* : this ability allows one to play a card out of one's graveyard with an added cost of discarding a land.
* : this makes the number of mana symbols of a particular color a variable which determines the effect of a card. One card from Eventide, mtgcard|Phosphorescent Feast, had already appeared in Future Sight, but without using the ability word Chroma.

The Eventide boosters will also include a rules card/token card. [cite web|url=http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=mtgcom/arcana/1630|title=Eventide Tokens |work=Magic Arcana |publisher=Wizards of the Coast |date=2008-6-10 |accessdate=2008-06-19]

Five theme decks were released as part of the set. The preconstructed theme decks are: "Life Drain" (White/Black), "Sidestep" (Blue/Red), "Death March" (Black/Green), "Battle Blitz" (Red/White), and "Superabundance" (Green/Blue). Noteable Cycles

*The Hybrid Land Cycle - The cycle from Shadowmoor was joined by the enemy colored versions mtgcard|Fetid Heath, mtgcard|Rugged Prairie, mtgcard|Cascade Bluffs, mtgcard|Flooded Grove, and mtgcard|Twilight Mire. This makes the Hybrid Land cycle the fourth rare dual land cycle to be made for both allied and enemy colors (The others include the Dual Land from , The Pain Lands from and , and The Shocklands from Ravnica block).
