WXTV, channel 41, is a Univisión owned-and-operated television station, licensed to Paterson, New Jersey and serving the New York metropolitan area. WXTV's studios are located in Teaneck, New Jersey, and its transmitter in on the Empire State Building in Manhattan. WXTV is one-half of a Univisión-owned duopoly in the New York City market with Telefutura station WFUT-TV (channel 68), licensed to Newark, New Jersey.

WXTV is known for having newscasts whose ratings frequently rival its english-speaking counterparts. One of the station's news anchors, Rafael Pineda, has held that position since 1972. This gives him the distinction of being the longest running active news anchor on a New York City television station, English or Spanish.

History

WXTV first began broadcasting on August 4, 1968, as an English and Spanish-language television station. In 1970, the station became an all-Spanish language station, affiliated with the Spanish International Network. From the mid-1980s until today, WXTV uses the slogan "A su lado", an adaptation for the Hispanic market of the campaign "On Your Side" created by Frank Gari, and even used the similarly named news music package for a time. SIN became Univisión in 1987.

The September 11, 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center did not affect WXTV's over-the-air signal, as they were broadcasting from the Empire State Building. In fact, the news anchors gave information and updates in English as well as Spanish on the attacks for the benefit of viewers without cable that lost access to the stations with transmitters at the WTC.

Digital television

The station's digital signal is multiplexed.

Post-analog shutdown

After the analog television shutdown and digital conversion, which is tentatively scheduled to take place on February 17, 2009, http://hraunfoss.fcc.gov/edocs_public/attachmatch/DA-06-1082A2.pdf] WXTV will remain on its current pre-transition channel number, 40.
