Forrest S. McCartney (born March 23, 1931) is a retired
United States Air Force lieutenant general and former director of theNASA John F. Kennedy Space Center .McCartney war born in
Fort Payne, Alabama . He graduated from Gulfport Military Academy in 1949, received abachelor of science degree inelectrical engineering fromAuburn University in 1952, earned a master's degree innuclear engineering from theAir Force Institute of Technology in 1955, also graduated from theArmed Forces Staff College . He received his commission through theReserve Officer Training Corps and entered the regular Air Force in 1952.He was promoted to his retirement rank of lieutenant general on May 1, 1983. In 1987 he was selected by
NASA Administrator James C. Fletcher as new director of theJohn F. Kennedy Space Center . McCartney held this position from August 31, 1987 until December 31, 1991.External links
