Alkaline Trio , released as the band's second single from their 2003 album,Good Mourning . The song's title comes from the familiar phrase about an Even Money bet in the game,Roulette , whereby a gambler places all of his or her money on the outside black square, hoping to double his or her money if the ball lands on any one of the 18 black numbers on the board. While the song's meaning is almost assuredly not about playing Roulette, the true meaning of the song is open to various interpretations. In concert,Matt Skiba has been quoted as saying "This one's for all the Satanists" prior to singing it, but again, what that actually means about the song is open to interpretation. The single received relatively little airplay on mainstream radio in the United States, and reached number 60 on the UK Charts. The band has performed the song live on shows like
The Late Show with David Letterman andLate Night With Conan O'Brien .Music Video
A music video was supposedly in the works with
Marilyn Manson set to star as the Devil, with Matt Skiba gambling against him in a Casino in Hell. cite web |url = http://www.mammothpress.com/index.php?area=readinterview&pid=18 |title = Artist Interview |author = Jacob Jonson] Manson allegedly had initial reservations, wanting to hear the song first and read over the script. According to Skiba, all the pre-production was done, a script was written, Manson was on board, and everyone was ready to go, and then Manson never showed up. cite web |url = http://www.mammothpress.com/index.php?area=readinterview&pid=18 |title = Artist Interview |author = Jacob Jonson]References
