Educated atDean Close School ,Cheltenham andQueen's College, Cambridge [”Crockford's clerical directory” London, Church House 1975 ISBN 0108153674 ] , he was ordained in 1933 and began his ecclesiastical career with a curacy inBoscombe [Then [Hampshire; nowDorset ] . In 1938 he began what was to be along association with theSudan by becoming aMissionary in Juba followed by a stint asAssistant Bishop of thediocese . Elevated to the Episcopate in 1953 he was to retain the position until retirement 21 years later.
