Girolama Mazzarini

Girolama Mazzarini

Girolama or Geronima Mazzarini (1608 or 1614 in RomeDecember 29, 1656 in Paris) was the sister of Cardinal Mazarin and mother of the five famous Mancini sisters: Laura Vittoria or "Laure Victoire"; Olympia "Olympe"; Maria "Marie"; Ortensia "Hortense"; and lastly, Maria Anna "Marie Anne".

Girolama was the daughter of Pietro Mazzarini, descendant of the Norman Royal Family of Sicily, and Ortensia Bufalini. Her father struggled to provide for his six children until joining the staff of the great Constable of Naples and prince of Paliano, Filippo I Colonna. Thanks to his skill, he won over the Prince of Colonna, and benefited from the prince's protection of each of his children.

Girolama married Lorenzo Mancini (1602 - 1650 or 1657), son of Francesco Alessandro Paolo Mancini and Vittoria Capoccii, on August 6, 1634.

They had ten children:
* Laura Vittoria (born circa 1635, died February 4, 1657 in Paris)
* Paul Jules (born 1636, died 1652 or 1654 in battle)
* Maria (born 1639 in Paris, died May 11, 1716 in Pisa)
* Olympia (11 July 1638October 9, 1708)
* Philippe Jules (born May 26, 1641, died May 8, 1707)
* Margherita (born 1643)
