British Columbia toCalifornia , where it grows in coastal mountain ranges. This wildflower grows from abulb 3 to 5 centimeters wide and produces wide green leaves up to 22 centimeters long and often mottled with brown and white. Thin naked stalks up to about 40 centimeters in height each bear one to three flowers. Each flower has whitetepal s with yellow bases, sometimes streaked with dull red. The flower often faces the ground with the tepals recurved so their points face upward. Thestamen s and stigma are white and the anthers may be white to yellow.External links
