Maryan Linux is said to be an Ubuntu-based operating system or Arch Linux-based [ [cite web | url=http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/11318?project=1&pagenum=3 | title=Arch-based Enlightenment 17 SVN edition | accessdate=2008-09-02] ] for desktop computers. It uses the repositories from Canonical Ltd. Maryan Linux uses Enlightenment 17 as its default desktop environment. Maryan Linux consists of many GTK+ applications by default.

Maryan Linux is designed to be a distro with a good ‘Out of the Box’ experience supplying codecs and a specific light user-friendly set of applications.
