History of the Journal

The "Journal of the IEST’s" predecessor, the "Journal of Environmental Engineering", was first published in October 1958 by the Society of Environmental Engineers (SEE) in Los Angeles, California. Another association at that time was the Institute of Environmental Engineers (IEE), which had been the science section of the Environmental Equipment Institute until separating in 1956. In April 1959, the SEE and the IEE merged to become the Institute of Environmental Sciences (IES).cite web

The "Journal of Environmental Engineering" was selected to be the official publication of the IES. In October 1959, the "Journal" was renamed the "Journal of Environmental Sciences". The publication also was titled the "Journal of the IES" and the "Journal of the Institute of Environmental Sciences" before becoming the "Journal of the IEST" in 1998. The goal of the publication has remained the same throughout its history: to be the premier provider of technical information for professionals in the environmental sciences.
