Celebration China is a unique event taking place in the historic Marina City of Qingdao, from 30th April 2008 – 4th May 2008. The event is backed by the Chinese Government and the Beijing Organising Committee for the Olympic Games. It is the only officially recognised prequel event to Beijing 2008.

Celebration China is a five day event held in Qingdao, location of Sailing 2008, the location of the competitive sailing events of Beijing 2008. It is expected to attract over three million visitors and is designed to showcase China and the City of Qingdao. The event comprises six major components: International and Chinese fashion and music, extreme sports, sailing, art, and wine.

As the build up to the Olympics gains momentum, the world’s attention is on China and the Government of Qingdao is holding this spectacular event to showcase what the city has to offer. A prominent trading port with a new infrastructure to support sailing and marine activities, Celebration China is designed to showcase the City of Qingdao, its culture and growing wealth. GDP per capita comprised RMB¥42,789 (ca. US$5,503) in 2006. The GDP has grown steadily at an average pace of 14% annually.

This multi-platform entertainment event appeals to the differing age groups and interests.

Celebration China is a unique event which will showcase Qingdao and reveal opportunities in a booming market for corporates as well promote cultural ties.

Celebration China Events

Sailing

30th April 2008 – 4th May 2008:

Qingdao is to host to Sailing 2008, the sailing competition of the Beijing 2008 and the sailing component of Celebration China will highlight how the city will provide an atmosphere and infrastructure to make the sailing some of the best experienced in the history of the Olympic Games.

To further emphasise its role as a global hub for sailing, Qingdao is the first Chinese city to host a World Match Racing Tour Exhibition (WMRT) event in which the best sailors in the world compete against each other.

It is the first time a WMRT exhibition race will be held in China and the event represents the first time private international yachts will be allowed to cross the China Sea and anchor at Qingdao.

The exhibition race will pit some of the world’s fastest teams against each other in front of an audience of a growing number of enthusiastic sailors in the region. World renowned skippers will show off their skills including:

Fashion and Music (Hot Couture)

2nd May 2008 – 4th May 2008.In Hot Couture there will be three programmes of fashion with music, from haute couture to chic street wear. The event will begin on 2nd May 2008 with a woman’s fashion show. Rosenthal’s Trend Show will kick off the event in style. Get a fascinating glimpse into their cutting edge blend of innovation and tradition, as they create a unique link between fashion and lifestyle. A celebrity VIP reception will follow.

On 3rd May 2007, Hot Couture continues with a men’s fashion show, featuring up tot the minute Italian designer wear.

The third day will feature ‘Urban Beat’, a collection of sport and street gear, set to the sounds of Hip Hop and Street Sound rock music spun by top DJ’s. The rising stars of China will enter the world stage.

Extreme Sports

30th April 2008 – 4th May 2008

This event features top athletes performing in daring and intense exhibitions and competitions, accompanied by live music.

Comprising three days of demonstration events on the half-pipe with FMX and two full days of extreme sports. It includes: Freestyle motorcross, BMX, skateboarding, inline vert, Jet Skiing, Live Music

Art

Wine

The Wine Pavilion will offer a wide selection of wines from some of the world’s finest wineries. Representatives of the featured wines will be on hand to give advice on fine wine and to offer wine tasting.

Hospitality booths will provide an opportunity to buy and enjoy food and wine by the glass. Orders may be placed for bottles and case of wine at good prices.
