Virginia Mountains

Virginia Mountains

The Virginia Mountains comprise an irregular mountain range located in western Nevada in the United States. They are entirely in Washoe County. They generally run NNW-SSE, for approximately 20 miles. They are often confused with the Virginia Range, which is further south.

To the south the Virginia Mountains are separated from the Pah Rah Range by Mullen Pass, through which State Route 445 runs. To the north they are separated from the Terraced Hills by Astor Pass. To the west, the Winnemucca Valley separates them from Dogskin Mountain. To the east is Pyramid Lake.

Few of the peaks in the Virginia Mountains are named on the appropriate USGS maps. The tallest is Tule Peak at 8724 feet. The southern part of the range has many interesting geologic features, including Needle Rock, the "Monkey Condos" and the Painted Hills. In the center of the range is Mahogany Flat, a plateau with extensive area over 7800 feet.
