Rick Margitza (b. Oct. 24, 1961,
Detroit ,Michigan ) is an Americanjazz tenor saxophonist.Margitza began playing violin at age four; his grandfather was a cellist and his father played violin with the
Detroit Symphony . Following this he played piano and oboe, and settled on tenor sax while inhigh school . He attended several colleges -Wayne State University ,Berklee College of Music ,University of Miami andLoyola University inNew Orleans . He toured withMaynard Ferguson andFlora Purim in the 1980s, and moved toNew York City in 1988, where he played withMiles Davis .
