George Reindorp

George Reindorp (December 11 1911 [The Times, Thursday, Dec 21, 1911; pg. 1; Issue 39774; col A Births] - April 20 1990) was an Anglican clergyman who served as the 5th Bishop of Guildford [The Times, Tuesday, Jan 17, 1961; pg. 7; Issue 54981; col C New Bishop Of Guildford Very Rev. G. E. Reindorp] and subsequently 75th Bishop of Salisbury [The Times, Friday, Dec 15, 1972; pg. 16; Issue 58658; col E Dr Reindorp to be new Bishop of Salisbury By Our Religious Affairs correspondent] .

Educated at Felsted School [ “Who was Who” 1897-1990 London, A & C Black, 1991 ISBN 071363457X] and Trinity College, Cambridge he then embarked on a clerical career that was to last over 40 years. After a curacy in Kensington and wartime service in the RNVR he rose rapidly in the church hierarchy, his posts including the Incumbency at the prestigious "St Stephen with St John, Westminster" [The Times, Saturday, Jun 12, 1948; pg. 6; Issue 51096; col C Services To-Morrow St Stephen’s Rochester Row Westminster] and Provost at Southwark Cathedral [ The Times, Thursday, Dec 05, 1957; pg. 12; Issue 54016; col D Provost of Southwark] before his elevation to the Episcopate.

Reindorp married a South African Doctor, Alix Edington, in South Africa following the end of the Second World War. The Reindorps gained a reputation as public speakers on the British lecture circuit. Their clerical and medical backgrounds earned the couple the nickname 'Body and Soul'. Reindorp had four children with his first wife, Alix (née Edington). Two of his sons, David and Julian, have been ordained into the Church of England. Reindop's only daughter, Fiona married English Baronet Sir Richard Baskerville Mynors. After the death of his first wife in 1987, Reindorp married Lady Bridget Mullens. The service was conducted by his eldest son, Julian.

A prolific author [His publications included "What about You?", 1956; "No Common Task", 1957; "Putting it Over: ten points for preachers", 1961; "Over to You", 1964; "Preaching Through the Christian Year", 1973. “Who’s Who” (Ibid)] and broadcaster [ [http://ftvdb.bfi.org.uk/sift/title/720166 Details of 1973 series] ] he died in retirement at Westminster three years after his wife Alix. Bishop Reindorp has 10 surviving Grandchildren, the eldest of whom, Nicola Reindorp, is Head of Oxfam International in the USA.

A biography of Bishop Reindorp was abandoned after opposition from his surviving family.
