Lakhish, Israel

Lakhish, Israel

Lakhish (Hebrew: לכיש) is a moshav in the northern Negev in south-central Israel, named after Lakhish, the ancient town of the same name. It belongs to the Lakhish Regional Council.

The moshav was originally founded as a Nahal settlement in 1955, an only later became a moshav. A large portion of the sustenance for members of the moshav derives from cultivation and sale of grapes. Lakhish is one of the three communities in Israel with the largest number of vineyards; the others are Zikhron Ya'akov and Binyamina.
