People's Economic Council

The People's Economic Council (German: Volkswirtschaftsrat (VWR)) in the GDR was established in July 1961 by the spin-off of the Department of Industry and the Department for material supply from the State Plan Commission. The purpose of the Council should be an independent "central state body" for the management of the central and local industry and for the settlement of the fundamental questions of craft and service establishments ".

As a central body of the Council of Ministers of the German Democratic Republic for the planning and management of the industry, he drafted on the basis of the decisions of the Council of Ministers, the Perspektivplanes, the guide ratios and the guidelines of the State Plan Commission the annual plan for the industry, and realized through its industry units, and VVB the economic councils of the districts in the industry, the Code of the SED and the government established principles of economic policy.
