John Horgan (Cork politician)
- John Horgan (Cork politician)
John Horgan was an Irish master plumber from Cork who had a very brief career as a politician in the Irish Free State. He served for a few months as a Teachta Dála (TD) for the National League Party, a short-lived party which advocated closer ties with the United Kingdom.
He was elected at the June 1927 general election as a TD for the Cork Borough constituency, taking his seat as one of 8 National League TDs in the 5th Dáil.[cite web |url=http://www.oireachtas.ie/members-hist/default.asp?housetype=0&HouseNum=5&MemberID=532&ConstID=30 |title=Mr. John (Cork Borough) Horgan |work=Oireachtas Members Database |accessdate=2008-02-06] However, the 5th Dáil was short-lived, and at the September 1927 general election Horgan and all but two of his party's TDs lost their seats. The party went bankrupt in 1928, and was formally disbanded in 1931. Horgan joined Cumann na nGaedhael, and stood again as a Cumann na nGaedhael candidate in Cork Borough at the at the 1932 and 1933 general elections, but did not regain his seat.][cite book |title=Parliamentary Elections in Ireland 1918–1922 |author=Walker, Brian M.
