Indiana State University with the "magna cum laude" distinction in 1974. He would then go on to the University of Michigan where he graduated "cum laude" in 1977. While at the University of Michigan he served on University of Michigan Law Review. From 1977-1978 he was a Law Clerk for the U.S. Circuit Judge George E. MacKinnon for theU.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit . Gibson Missouri Endowed Professorship at the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Law in Columbia, Missouri (1998-2003). From 1994 to 1998, he was the Herbert Herff Chair of Excellence at the Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law at the University of Memphis. He also served as the Dean of the
