Ray Cunningham (born April 15, 1983 in Richmond, VA), was one of eight cast members on season 3 of BET's College Hill reality series. Cunningham is best known and nationally recognized as the first openly gay personality to be featured on the Black Entertainment Television (BET) network in its then 25 year history. He is an alumnus of Virginia State University, an historically black institution located in Petersburg, Virginia, with a degree in Mass Communications (2006). He now resides in Los Angeles, California.[1]
Cunningham has also appeared on episode 4: Mark of the HERE network series DL Chronicles (2007), FOX Reality's late night television special Nightclub Confessions (2007)[2] and will play the role of Malik on the television series Christopher Street,[3] which is in production in New York City.
Cunningham was featured in the November 2007 Advocate issue,[4] interviewed by noted journalist John Griffiths and also was named one of Clik magazine's most eligible and wanted batchelors of 2007 in the November issue.[5] On January 23, 2008, Cunningham along with nationally recognized blogger and advocate Jasmyne Cannick moderated "It's a Black Thang: The Black LGBT 08 Vote - A Presidential Forum" [6] at the Lucy Florence Coffee House and Cultural Center in Leimert Park. The events panelist included Paris Barclay, Emmy Award winning director, Abner Mason, Executive Director of AIDS Responsibility and former President of the Log Cabin Republicans and actor Doug Spearman, of Noah's Arc fame.
For 2008, Cunningham has signed on for several independent film projects and returned to BET once again in March for the first ever College Hill Class Reunion special featuring the Virginia State University, Virgin Islands and Chicago Interns cast.[7]
