- Priors Marston
Priors Marston is a village located in
Warwickshire ,UK 10 kilometres south west ofDaventry . According to the2001 UK Census the population of the parish is 506, most of which live in the village. The name "Priors" refers to the fact the village used to belong toCoventry Priory . The "Mars" is from the word “Merse” referring to the lake which formed a fish farm in the early days of the village and the "ton" means settlement.The village has an independent primary school called The Priors School. The school was originally a
state school , opened in1847 . However in August1996 the school was forced to close. After only a month of fundraising however the school re-opened, this time for fee paying pupils. The Parish Church is dedicated toSt Leonard and the original one was built in1313 . The current church is part 17th century and part 19th century. The village, being remote, only got a mains supply electricity in1934 and of water in1948 . The village hall, called Priors Hall is modern and is a joint venture withPriors Hardwick . It can cater for up to 250 people and the offices of five local businesses are based there. It also acts as a cinema showing around two films per week. The village also has aPost Office , a Sports and Social Club and a children'splayground . TheOxford Canal andJurassic Way both run nearby.A blue path runs from a house in Byfield Road through the churchyard to the now disused
Moravian Church . It was built by Ted Masters to allow him to walk through the village to church without getting his shoes muddy. Recently part of the path was raised to enable some repairs to services beneath. There was such outcry locally that the path was relaid albeit with replacement stones
