James "Jim" Joseph Traber (b.
December 26 ,1961 ) is a sports talk show host inOklahoma City . He was a starting quarterback for theOklahoma State University football team in the mid-1980's. He was also aMajor League Baseball player for theBaltimore Orioles where his nickname was "The Whammer". He played baseball inJapan in his latter baseball career. His time in Japan is perhaps most memorable for an incident in which Traber rushed the mound subsequent to being hit by a pitch, chasing the retreating pitcher into the outfield. After charging the pitcher a second time, he tripped while running and was kicked in the face on the way down. Grainy footage of this incident is still widely distributed on the Internet.His involvement with sports talk radio began after his retirement from professional sports. He also served as a television color analyst for Fox Sports' regional coverage of the
Arizona Diamondbacks during the team's World Series victory season of 2001. Currently, Jim hosts a show called "The Locker Room" along with fellow aports radio personalityMike Steely that is created and produced at theUniversity of Oklahoma Film, Video & Broadcast Production Services studio (formerly Television & Satellite Services). Jim Traber has also co-hosted a weekly syndicated sports betting program with The Fat Jack, called "Jim Traber and The Fat Jack Show".His sister is a civil rights attorney in California, and his brother,
Peter G. Traber , leads theBaylor College of Medicine inHouston ,Texas . Jim's wife Julie is the president of a multimedia company in Oklahoma City.Traber was named as one of the all time worst players in Orioles history, in an article titled, "The Zeros of Birdland".
