Jim Traber

Jim Traber

James "Jim" Joseph Traber (b. December 26, 1961) is a sports talk show host in Oklahoma City. He was a starting quarterback for the Oklahoma State University football team in the mid-1980's. He was also a Major League Baseball player for the Baltimore Orioles where his nickname was "The Whammer". He played baseball in Japan in his latter baseball career. His time in Japan is perhaps most memorable for an incident in which Traber rushed the mound subsequent to being hit by a pitch, chasing the retreating pitcher into the outfield. After charging the pitcher a second time, he tripped while running and was kicked in the face on the way down. Grainy footage of this incident is still widely distributed on the Internet.

His involvement with sports talk radio began after his retirement from professional sports. He also served as a television color analyst for Fox Sports' regional coverage of the Arizona Diamondbacks during the team's World Series victory season of 2001. Currently, Jim hosts a show called "The Locker Room" along with fellow aports radio personality Mike Steely that is created and produced at the University of Oklahoma Film, Video & Broadcast Production Services studio (formerly Television & Satellite Services). Jim Traber has also co-hosted a weekly syndicated sports betting program with The Fat Jack, called "Jim Traber and The Fat Jack Show".

His sister is a civil rights attorney in California, and his brother, Peter G. Traber, leads the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. Jim's wife Julie is the president of a multimedia company in Oklahoma City.

Traber was named as one of the all time worst players in Orioles history, in an article titled, "The Zeros of Birdland". [ [http://www.citypaper.com/news/story.asp?id=3428] ]
