She was born in Williamsburg to a metal working factory owner, and together with her sister she inherited the
American Metal Stamping business, which is located on North 14th Street of Williamsburg. In the 1980s she began to buy vacant factory buildings in Brooklyn when the city auctioned them off at low prices. In 2001 she developed a 22-storycondo building on 330 Wythe Avenue which she converted from the vacantEsquire Shoe Polish Factory.
