"The Detectives Starring Robert Taylor" is an American crime action drama which ran on ABC during its first two seasons, and on NBC during its third and final season. It starred movie star Robert Taylor as Detective Capt. Matt Holbrook, the tough, no-nonsense head of an elite police investigative unit in a major U.S. city.

It was produced by Four Star Television, the studio responsible for such hit series as "The Rifleman", "", "Trackdown", "Richard Diamond, Private Detective", "Burke's Law", and "The Big Valley" (which starred Taylor's ex-wife Barbara Stanwyck). The series also starred Tige Andrews as Detective Lt. Johnny Russo, Russell Thorson as Detective Lt. Otto Lindstrom, Mark Goddard as Detective Sgt. Chris Ballard, Lee Farr as Lt. Jim Conway (1st season only), and future "Batman" star Adam West as Sgt. Steve Nelson (3rd season only) .

A total of 97 episodes were filmed, with the final season expanded to 1 hour, and the series moved to NBC. Reruns of "The Detectives" were shown in the early 2000's on cable's TV Land network.Elvis Costello paid tribute to this series in his hit song "Watching The Detectives" .
