John Farrell Easmon

Dr. John Farrel Easmon (June 30, 1856-June 9, 1900) was a prominent Krio doctor in the British Gold Coast and his son, McCormack Easmon was also a prominent Krio doctor. John's half brother, Albert Whiggs Easmon, was a successful Krio doctor and his son was the well known poet and doctor, Raymond Sarif Easmon. John Easmon first opened his practice on No. 2 East Street in Settler Town, Sierra Leone before moving to the Gold Coast and establishing himself as one of the top West African doctors.

Background

John Farrel Easmon was born in Settler Town, Sierra Leone on June 30, 1856 to Walter Easmon and his second wife Ann McCormack.John Easmon was a descendant of one of Freetown Founding Families (through his father), the Easmons who were Nova Scotian settlers originally from the United States. Easmon's paternal grandparents were William and Jane Easmon and they arrived in Sierra Leone from Nova Scotia in 1792 John Easmon's mother was from Ireland and was the daughter of the successful Irish trader, John McCormack.
