Douglas Connell

Douglas Andrew Connell, WS, FRSA, is a Scottish solicitor and Chairman of the Scottish Government's Recognition Committee for collections of national significance held by Scotland’s non-national museums and galleries. The Recognition scheme is managed by Museums Galleries Scotland on behalf of the Scottish Government.

Connell is Joint Senior Partner of the private client law firm Turcan Connell, and is an accredited specialist in Trust and Charity Law. His work in Charity Law includes the formation and governance of charities and advice to the Trustees of a number of major national institutions as well as private charitable foundations. He is a former chairman of the Edinburgh Book Festival and a former chairman of the Lottery Committee of the Scottish Arts Council. He served as a board member of Artlink and the Edinburgh International Festival. Connell is a patron of the National Galleries of Scotland and a patron of the National Museums of Scotland. He is a former member of the Court of the University of St Andrews, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and a Writer to the Signet.
